The party retires to a local tavern to rest for the night. During their sleep, they're attacked by a group of assassin. They take care of the assassin, and capture one for interrogation. They do not discover much more than what they already knew, and they decide to go ahead with their plan.
The next evening, they infiltrate the duke's castle, using their magical and psionic powers to fly invisibly over the walls, enter the duke's sleeping room, and kidnap him. At the same time, they place the "real" duke in his chambers. Then they abscond with the "fake" duke.
When they return to the rebellion's hideout, they have a chance to interrogate the "fake" duke. Now, it seems that the party had it all wrong! They actually kidnapped the REAL duke, though they realize he's an amoral brat with no love for his own subjects. The person they put in power is actually a doppelganger named Ith, who has a kind heart and is willing to do what's right.
After some discussion between all parties involved, it is decided that:
- the real duke will be delivered to the Crown, to be judged for his crimes
- Ith will stop pretending to be the duke
- the rulership of the town will pass to the duke's sister
Having accomplished their goal, the PCs reap some reward, and ready themselves for the next leg of their journey.
